Keep food, water and suitable medical supplies with you. Respond to the condition shown by the game instead of waiting until you can no longer act.
Food, water and everyday preparation
Check your condition before leaving town or beginning a long job. Put a suitable consumable in your hands and use the displayed action; the default consume binding is F. Carrying food in a bag does not consume it automatically.
Keep space for supplies and replace what you use. Inventory and Equipment explains the difference between carrying, equipping and holding an item.
Treat what you can
Open self-care with Ctrl + J while conscious and unrestrained. Review the condition and the treatments offered. Civilian self-care supports field bandaging, splinting and paracetamol when you have the required item and the treatment is appropriate.
- Move out of immediate danger when possible.
- Inspect your condition and select the relevant treatment.
- Allow it to finish and check the result.
- Request medical assistance for injuries you cannot manage or symptoms that continue.
Self-care is limited; it does not give civilians the full medical-service equipment or treatment options.
Ask for medical assistance
Use Phone > Emergency / 911 and select the medical service. Describe your location, injury and any danger responders need to know about. If you become unconscious, use the medical-request option on the recovery screen when it is available.
