Gunsmith is the workshop progression used by crafting recipes, including everyday tools and supplies. It is separate from your character's general XP and an organisation's reputation.
Check your progress
Open a workbench. Its header shows your Gunsmith level, XP and progress towards the next level. Select a recipe to see its required level and any remaining requirements.
Locked recipes can still be inspected. Use their details to plan your next materials or equipment, rather than assuming a greyed-out craft button means the menu is broken.
Earn crafting XP
Choose an available recipe, supply its ingredients, complete the craft and collect the output successfully. Starting a timer alone does not award the collection XP. After collecting, allow the progress display to refresh before checking your next unlock.
Make items you can use or trade. Consider ingredient costs, demand, workshop time and storage instead of assuming that manufacturing any unlocked item guarantees profit.
Understand each requirement
| Requirement | What it means |
|---|---|
| Bench type | The recipe belongs to the normal or industrial catalogue. |
| Gunsmith level | Your crafting progress must meet the recipe's level. |
| Materials | You need the listed item types and quantities. |
| Blueprint | Some recipes also require a discovered blueprint; a level alone does not replace it. |
| Licence or suspension | Where applicable, legal eligibility is checked separately from XP. |
| Property access | You need permission to use the workshop. |
Use the live recipe screen for the exact unlocks. This guide does not publish a full list of specialised criminal equipment or discovery routes.
Crafting an item versus using it
A recipe's required level concerns manufacturing. Buying or obtaining the finished item does not award the crafting skill, and its use may have different requirements. For example, the Syndicate tablet has a crafting route and a separate device-use check.
